Qwoffy - Purpose of the toy and character re-boot

The character looks slighly differently to when the last purpose of the toy was made as Qwoffy looked too 'cute' for the look I was going for. The new style of Qwoffy is more about how he looks different to all the perfect coffee beans, he is an outcast.

Qwoffy - Donut Neckalace?

Going back to the little accessory idea as it can interact with the toy more by placing it around its necks and making it a part of the display piece.

Qwoffy - Sketch Model 3

Another sketch model was created this time out of plasticine. The character generated is closer to the look I want for the toy.

Qwoffy - Facial Development

Development on the face will be done until the right one suits the character.

Qwoffy - Mouth Work

Experimentation was done on designing the mouth in different ways. Through the development of the character a mouth design will be chosen.

Qwoffy - Coffee Bean Re-Cap

The traditional coffee bean was analysed again for the designing of the mouth for Qwoffy resulting in a discovery that the slice across the been itself aren't the same on every bean. This meant and expression can be placed on Qwoffy without loosing the bean look.

Qwoffy - Head Shape Work - Eye brow concept development

Further development was done on the eye brow concept by giving more expression to the qwoffy character by raising one eye brow and dropping the jaw. After this was done it was decided that it doesn't suit the character at all as it no longer looked like a coffee bean.

Qwoffy - Head Shape Work - Test Models 3 and 4

Model 3
Can the head have softer edges and be more curvy?  A jaw is created from making the bottom section protrude out more.

Model 4

Can more character be added by adding subtle features like eye brows? This will be developed further in more experimentation.

Qwoffy - Head Shape Work - Test Models 1 and 2

Model 1
This model was created to test the tradional coffee bean shape and to see whether an eye design (one eye larger than the other) worked or not.

Model 2

This model was created to see if the face would look better if it curved in towards the centre. I feel it adds more character to the face rather than it just being flat.

Qwoffy - Head Shape Work

Even though there is a universal shape for a coffee bean it can be changed in many different ways but still keep the appearance of the bean itself. Development will be done until the right shape is found.

Qwoffy - Face Work - Eyes

Development on the eyes was done as I felt they didn't suit the character and didn't express any emotional connection or visual language.

Qwoffy - Accessory Adaption - 2 Concepts

Instead of the toy coming with a small accsessory it come with one which interacts with the toy itself. As the Accessory isn't crucial at the moment it will be explored later on in development.

Qwoffy - Accessory Idea Continued

Other associations with the coffee drink were researched to add more variety to the accessories. I feel humour is added with an addiction of accessories.

Qwoffy - Accidental Accessory

After the creation of the two sketch models some excess clay was left over. As there wasn't enough left to create another model I made it into a ring shape just for fun. After it dried I thought I should try and use it with the toy and came up with an accessory idea. This ring could become a doughnut which is associated with the coffee drink and come with every Qwoffy figure.

Qwoffy - Purpose of the toy? - Save a Qwoffy concept

A purpose is key when designing a toy as this connects with the audience (the consumer). Various purposes will be explored until one is chosen but this concept is where it stands for now. The idea is a whole 'save a Qwoffy' scheme which shows a purpose in why people should purchase the product.

Qwoffy - Comparing the two sketch models

The two models are very different in the way they look yet they are the same character. As you can see the second sketch model produced has more feeling and emotion to the figure just by changing certain aspects like the pose. The size of the figure is also different, I feel this size is right for the application needed.

Qwoffy - Rough Clay Sketch Model - Model 2

Another sketch model was created using clay in inspiration from a sketch previously done.
