Back to the drawing board - Re- thinking

After a feedback session i decided that I'm going at this project the wrong way. I should be thinking of what i want to show in the characters I'm designing, do they have a specific quality i want to show? IE a character trait which make them the character they are. Am i trying to show a statement in they way some urban vinyl toys do?
